Tanning is natural. It is your body’s own defense against sunburn or skin damage. Indoor tanning is the most controlled environment possible to get a tan. Moderate indoor tanning is the smartest way to maximize the potential benefits of sun exposure while minimizing the potential risks associated with either too much or too little sunlight.
- Do I really need to wear eyewear?
YES, absolutely! Eyelids are very thin and they have no natural protection against ultraviolet exposure. A towel won’t work, nor will sunglasses, bottle caps, contact lenses, or metal coins. The only way to do a good job of protecting your precious eyes is to wear specially designed and manufactured eyewear for indoor tanning. Long-term damage from eye exposure can cause cataracts, poor night vision, and even blindness.
- What is the difference between UVB and UVA tanning rays?
UVA, more commonly referred to as the “bronzing” ray, is a longer wave and penetrates further into the skin than UVB. UVB, or the “burning” ray, is a tighter, more intense wave that releases its energy closer to the skin’s surface. Because of this, UVB is more likely to cause sunburn than UVA. Today’s tanning units use a carefully controlled mixture of both UVA and UVB to help prevent tanners from burning as quickly or easily from the natural sun.
- Why is it important to use indoor tanning lotions?
The indoor tanning lotions sold in our salon are specifically formulated to maximize the results of each tanning visit and increase the quality of the tan. They provide the moisture and essential nutrients that skin needs to achieve the best tan possible and keep it looking young and healthy.

- What are tanning "levels"?
Levels differentiate between the types of beds.
Lower levels: Lower level beds tend to be beds with fewer bulbs. These beds have higher UVB to UVA percentage than higher level beds. UVB rays have shorter wavelength and produce short-lasting color.
Higher levels: With our higher level beds you see a deeper, richer tan faster, and obtain a better tan with fewer sessions. These beds have higher UVA to UVB percentage than lower level beds do. UVA rays are a longer wavelength and penetrate the skin deeper, to give a long-lasting bronze color.
This depends on your skin type, the lotion you use and your current skin color. In general, the average person can develop a base tan in 10-15 sessions in our 15 minute beds. On your first visit we will determine a schedule for you to follow, usually starting off with just a few minutes your first session and gradually working up to a full 15 minute session. It is very important not to overexpose your skin to the sun! Plan on 30 to 45 days to build a tan.
- How long does it take to develop a tan?
We recommend you follow an every other day tanning schedule when building your base tan. After you have developed your base, you can reduce your schedule to once or twice a week depending on the tan you desire.
